Everyday Professional Skills Workshop Series Launches in Lincoln
Free program helps residents prepare for employment opportunities

[August 27, 2025]  LINCOLN, IL –  Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois (CAPCIL), in collaboration with local partners, Heartland Community College and Lincoln Economic Advancement & Development, Inc. (LEAD), developed a new program designed to help individuals strengthen their professional skills and prepare for meaningful employment.

The Everyday Professional Skills Workshop Series begins Monday, September 8, 2025, and will run on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. for three weeks at Hope on 5th, 200 5th Street, Lincoln. Dinner will be provided at 5:00 p.m. before each session.

This free, interactive series includes six workshops focused on essential workplace skills, confidence-building, and job readiness. Participants who complete the program will receive:

• A certificate of completion to add to their resume

• A professional headshot

• A new outfit for interviews

• The opportunity to network with potential employers

“This workshop is a great opportunity for individuals who are working to gain, maintain, or advance in employment,” said Dea Welsh, Community & Personal Development Director (CAPCIL). “It’s not only about learning practical skills, but also about leaving with tangible tools and connections to help secure your next job.”

The Everyday Professional Skills Workshop Series has been made possible through the generosity of its funders: The Woods Foundation, Community Services Block Grant, and Heartland Community College. CAPCIL also extends its appreciation to program partners: Heartland Community College Continuing Education, Hope on 5th, and Lincoln Economic Advancement & Development, Inc. (LEAD)
