West Lincoln-Broadwell students take in the history at local sites

[May 19, 2026]  When school is over but students go on educational tours, that is a great ending to the school year and a perfect way to start summer break. Monday, West Lincoln Broadwell students were able to visit and enjoy Logan County sites that are all about history and some fun stories.

Around 50 students had the privilege of visiting what we classify as historic sites. They went to Atlanta to see the “giants” and when returning to Lincoln were divided into two groups. One group went to the Postville Courthouse while the other group went to the Mill Museum and then traded places.

Some of the history that was discussed was the relationship of Route 66 and the Mill. The history captured with the leg in the ceiling, the wonderful old artifacts, the story behind the Tropics and the Pig Hip and the Mill with its lighted and rotating windmill. Abraham Lincoln was part of the culture that has been created in Lincoln and Logan County.

Susan Harmon, who has done the entire Route 66 trip, was there to share some US History of how the 100 years on Route 66 has impacted many areas within the states and to share some of the connections that the international visitors are intrigued with as they travel from Chicago to Santa Monica.

We thank the West Lincoln Broadwell School district for allowing the students, teachers, and staff to visit our sites and to learn more about the people who have helped create the stories of Logan County.
