UCB Names New Market Presidents & Chief Lending Officer

[July 07, 2025]  Chatham, IL, – United Community Bank (UCB), a trusted leader in Central Illinois banking, is pleased to announce key leadership transitions and promotions that reinforce its commitment to growth, client service, and community engagement.

Steve Otten has been named UCB Ambassador. Steve, who serves as current Springfield Market President, is transitioning to a mentorship role after 29 years of exemplary service leading UCB’s Springfield market. In this capacity, he will provide strategic guidance and leadership support while enjoying more time with his family, friends, and personal interests.

To support UCB’s growth, the greater Springfield-area market and surrounding counties will be realigned into two regions each led by a newly promoted Market President beginning August 1st. Additionally, a new Chief Lending Officer has been appointed.

Matt Seman, currently Executive Vice President will be Market President - North Sangamon, Logan, & McLean Counties. Matt has over 15 years of combined service with Illini Bank and United Community Bank and more than 25 years as a financial professional. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison Graduate School of Banking.

Born and raised in Sherman, Matt is actively engaged in the community. He is President of the Williamsville-Sherman CUSD #15 Board of Education, serving the Board for 14 years, the last 7 as President. He also serves as Treasurer of the Springfield Home Builders Association. He is a past president and board member of Williamsville Junior Football and has coached many youth sports. “I look forward to leading the Central North region,” states Seman. “I am committed to delivering exceptional service and strengthening our community ties!”

Todd Wood, currently Executive Vice President will be Market President - Central Sangamon & Morgan Counties. Todd joined UCB in 2008, serving across all lines of business in his 17-year tenure with the Bank. “I am excited to guide the growth and development of our newly designated UCB Central region,” says Wood. “I look forward to building on our tradition of community-focused banking!”

Hailing from Chatham, Todd is a graduate of the University of Illinois Springfield with a B.S. in Business Administration. He enjoys sharing his financial expertise in the community serving on the Illinois Real Estate Title Center Executive Board and Budget/Compensation Committee, The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Springfield Board, Springfield Ball Charter School Board, United Way of Central Illinois Vision Council, Panther Creek Country Club’s Finance and Golf Committees, and is a member of the Capital Area Association of REALTORS Commercial Real Estate Network.

David Drennan, currently Executive Vice President has been named Chief Lending Officer of United Community Banks. David is nearing his 20th year with UCB. An expert in loan development, underwriting, and operations, he will oversee lending management including operations, compliance, and profitability across all UCB markets. A Springfield native, David earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, a Master of Business Administration from Benedictine University at Springfield, and Banking and Executive Leadership Certification from Graduate School of Banking at University of Wisconsin – Madison.

“Serving as Chief Lending Officer is an honor, following the lead of Allen Schmale our President and CEO,” shares Drennan. “I am eager to continue advancing our lending services and technologies to benefit our clients!” He currently serves on the boards of LLCC Foundation and HSHS St. John’s Hospital and is a member of HSHS System Finance Committee. In addition to his reading mentorship at Harvard Park Elementary School, Dave has also been a mentor and instructor with the Sangamon CEO Program and an adjunct instructor for Millikin University’s Organizational Leadership Program.
