Meet in the Middle, Cultivate Community: The Back Forty to host Town Hall at Logan County Fairgrounds on July 13

[June 14, 2025]  LOGAN COUNTY, IL — Families, farmers, and community leaders from Springfield, Bloomington, Decatur, and Peoria are invited to Lincoln Illinois for a special town hall on Saturday, July 13 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Logan County Fairgrounds, where rural voices will take center stage in a conversation about farm policy and their real-life impact on central Illinois communities.

Hosted by Sunshine Strategies and The Back Forty, the event features Executive Director of The Back Forty, Will Westmoreland, a respected farmer and rural advocate from southwest Missouri. Westmoreland will lead a discussion with residents from four counties on policy challenges facing family farms, the political landscape throughout rural America, and what it will take to build stronger, more resilient rural communities.

“This is more than a policy conversation,” said Jen McMillin, founder of Sunshine Strategies. “It’s about creating a space for our neighbors to come together, share stories, and chart a future where rural Illinois thrives.”
The town hall will also feature:

● Food vendors, including The Dog House food truck, serving corn dogs, lemon shake-ups, and other fair favorites

● Activities for kids and families, including face painting

● A Community Resource Fair with local organizations, services, and support for rural residents

Admission is free, and all are welcome — especially farmers, producers, and anyone who cares about the future of rural life in Illinois.
