Lincoln kicks of Third Friday events by celebrating American Heroes

[May 18, 2026]  Lincoln celebrated the beginning of summer this past weekend with its first Third Friday event of the season. Beautiful weather brought crowds downtown to the courthouse square to enjoy music, food, art, and vendors. This month’s theme for the evening was American Heroes.

There was plenty to do and see downtown including live entertainment by the band Harmony G.R.I.T.S., a car show, local artists, bounce houses for kids, family games, and food trucks. Many civic organizations and local businesses had vendor tables on the west side of the square and downtown businesses kept doors open late.

The Harvest of Talents for World Hunger booth sold tacos with handmade tortillas to raise money for disaster relief. The National Railsplitter Festival booth had a kids toy ax throwing station to help them get the word out about the festival which will coincide with Balloons Over 66 in August this year. Lincoln Community Theatre held a drawing for free tickets to their summer shows. Guesthouse was serving tasty treats along with other food vendors selling everything from cotton candy to corn dogs.

Other civic organizations on hand included Hope on Fifth, Oasis Senior Center, St. John United Church of Christ, Boy Scouts, Logan/Mason ROSC, Central Illinois Veterans Commission, Carroll Catholic School, and Logan County Pride along with booths from Heartland Bank and T-Mobile.

The downtown audience enjoyed country music covers from Harmony G.R.I.T.S at the corner of Pulaski and Kickapoo Streets. Outdoor seating was full at Spirited Republic and the rest of that side of the square was lined with classic cars of all vintage.

Outside Lincoln Art Institute arts and crafts vendors were selling their wares and offering creative opportunities, and all along Broadway Street kids were enjoying the bounce houses and games. Sorrento’s was offering pizza by the slice and popular lunch spot Flossie and Delzena’s was open for the event as well.

Third Friday offers lots of fun for the whole family. The next Third Friday will be June 19 on the courthouse square from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a Nashville Nights theme.
