book signing with author John Spencer
[March 24, 2026]
On Friday, March 20, Rebecca
Adams, owner of Village Vintage and Gifts in Emden hosted an
“Evening Along Old Roads with John Spencer.”

Spencer, author of several books,
shared stories along old roads from his newest collection. Having
the event at a local vintage shop fit in with the historical themes
of his works

A native of Central Illinois,

includes the historical fiction novel Round Prairie Inferno and
Senachwine Crossing.

in the Springfield area, which has informed the deep historical

Some of his books
were available for purchase and Spencer did signings. The
description on the back of his recently published book Last Ride
on the Galena Coach Road says, “Spencer brings you 20 road-bound
stories spanning America’s long memory.” These roads include
“dusty coach roads, racing circuits, rail lines, war paths and
midnight highways.”
As the description says, “rooted in real moments and hard-earned
truth, these tales follow ordinary people at extraordinary
crossroads, where a single mile can change everything. By turns
somber, tense, and quietly hopeful, this collection explores
movement as destiny, and roads we choose—or are forced—to travel
when turning back is no longer possible.”
Spencer’s books can be found in various stores and online at
Amazon, Abebooks.com and Thriftbooks.com.
