St. Peter’s Lutheran Church holds first Senior Saints event

[February 19, 2026]  On Tuesday, February 17, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden held a Senior event with around 32 people in attendance. A soup lunch was followed by a presentation by Pastor Keith Ray on healthy living.

The presentation was titled S.H.A.R.P.: A Thriving Lifestyle. S.H.A.R.P. was an acronym for healthy living. For instance, S referred to being socially engaged through relationships, H referred to healthy choices in diet, and A referred to an active lifestyle through exercise. R stood for rituals of faith that include tradition, reflection and mindfulness and P stood for a playful outlook that includes humor and celebration.

After the presentation lay minister John Cross helped lead a game of “name that hymn.” As pianist Doris Klokkenga played the beginning notes of a hymn, everyone tried to guess what hymn it was. The final song was “Till We Meet Again.”

Another part of the event was drawing names for prizes. The ones whose names were drawn could choose gift-bags or gift cards.

This event was the first of what they hope to make a monthly event during the school year. Everyone voted to call the group Senior Saints.

As the event neared the end, Cross talked about running our race as Christians with others cheering us on. He closed the day’s activities with prayer
