Railsplitter water boil
[September 02, 2026]
With sweat already dripping
from their foreheads, eight teams faced off in the annual water
boil. Emcee Bob Rankin noted that this event had caused the most
trips to the emergency room, so he cautioned everyone to pay close
attention and compete carefully. Teams of two or three included
adults working together and adults partnering with children; young
participants were allowed to compete only with an adult.
The objective was simple: be the
first team to bring a metal can of water to a rolling boil.
Achieving it was anything but easy. Competitors sat on the ground,
chopped kindling, built their fires to a safe size, and kept the
flames hot by blowing, fanning, and feeding them. The challenge
required patience, skill, time, and teamwork. And with the heat
index soaring, this was an extra trying time being around the heat
of that fire and it was amazing to see each team remaining so
focused, quiet, and dedicated throughout the event.
