Order of Christian Initiation of
Adults (OCIA) process at Holy Family Church

God is always calling us to
serve Christ’s mission – are you listening?
All Saints Parish has a process for unbaptized persons or baptized
persons who have not been a part of a church community. The process
is called “Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). This
process provides a community in which one is accompanied in
listening to God’s call and place for individuals to discern God’s
plan for them.
The process begins in September with a period of inquiry into a life
in Christ through baptism. This time is for those unbaptized or
baptized but never part of a church community as an adult. The
second period is a time to learn about the Catholic Church, her
sacraments, graces and beliefs. The third period is the formal
preparation for baptism, confirmation and Holy Communion, which are
celebrated at the Easter Vigil, March 27. After Easter, time is
spent unpacking the experience of joining the church and making
choices about how to engage more deeply with the Christian
community. The whole process is completed at Pentecost. This is
God’s work. Participants are always free to step out of the process
at any point.
