Lincoln Public Library Summer
Reading Program participants enjoy a foam cannon
[June 06, 2026]
The nice, sunny weather brought
many people out Thursday, June 4 as the Lincoln Public Library
kicked off its 2026 summer reading program with foam cannon fun on
the Carnegie Library lawn.
As the foam sprayed out from the cannon, children joyfully ran
through the soap bubbles it created.

Some had bubbles covering their
heads, faces, and arms creating a new look for them.

Patrick Gettleman of United
Community Bank provided donuts, water and capri sun for the
children. When children took a break from running through the foam,
many of them waited in line to get a donut.

UCB also handed out little flags to
the children, which they enjoyed waving.

This year’s summer reading program
theme is plant a seed, read. The windows of the children’s library
and the inside of the annex have garden related decorations.

Youth Services Librarian Donna
Cunningham said plant a seed, read encourages kids to keep reading
over the summer. She noted that even a little bit of reading helps.
There will be programs
nearly every day for various age groups starting Monday, June 8 and
ending Friday, July 17.
Mondays from 10-10:30 and 2-2:30 are the stream club programs for
kindergarten through second graders.
Tuesdays from 10-10:30 and 2-2:30 are the explorers’ club programs
for third through fifth graders.
These groups will do craft projects every week.
On Wednesdays, story time will be offered in the library annex for
two year olds through five year olds.
Thursdays at 10 a.m., there will be programs for both younger and
older children. The program Thursday, June 11 will be a show by
Spoon Man, who plays spoons and other types of silverware.
Fridays at 2 will be the craft corner for sixth through twelfth
graders.
Calendars with the summer reading program activities can be picked
up in the Library annex youth services department.
Call the Youth Services Department at 217-732-5732 for more
