Logan County Tourism Bureau press release

[June 23, 2026]

The Relaunch of the Windmill at The Mill portrayed what the Logan County Tourism Bureau signifies to Logan County and Lincoln, IL. A Ribbon Cut was held to recognize revival of the rotation and lighting of the new windmill which has been absent for years. Many people in the audience remember the days when the windmill welcomed people on Route 66 into town. Thank you for the wonderful participation on Saturday as we celebrated the story of The Mill and the authentic and historic memories of the people in this place.

Special thanks to Lincoln Daily News, the Railsplitter Antique Car Club, City of Lincoln, the Logan County Board, Molly Pickering, President of the Logan County Tourism Board, and other members of the LCTB Board. A special thanks to Geoff Ladd who was the originator of the project to restore the Mill. Geoff spoke to the group at 1:00 relaying the story of the people who worked diligently to revive the Mill. In the open discussion after his presentation, we learned there is a great deal of history that is untold, and some of it may need to be verified and possibly corrected. We thank Geoff for bringing the past to the future and possible endeavors to undertake.

We thank T & D Catering who prepared 150 Schnitzels sandwiches along with other options, but sold out of food! Twenty-five cars were present for the Cruise In. More than 175 people toured the Mill Museum, including travelers from Pennsylvania, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, and international visitors from Belgium. Our new picnic tables and park benches provided through the Route 66 Grant were put to good use. The project for the restoration of the windmill was also a significant part of the Route 66 Grant. So thank you State of Illinois. Thank you to all who attended our celebration and made it feel so special!
