Camp Ellis: Once a City – Not
Forgotten
Seemingly overnight in 1942, a major U.S. Army Services Unit
Training Center and Prisoner-of-War camp arose between the quiet
central Illinois farming communities of Bernadotte, Ipava, and Table
Grove to become Camp Ellis.
On Monday, August 18, at the Logan County Genealogical and
Historical Society, 114 S. Chicago, Lincoln, Illinois, author Rick
Klinedinst will discuss the many impacts this short-lived city had
on the local communities and the War, the variety of professional
training that occurred, and the German POWs housed within its walls,
and ultimately how it disappeared just as suddenly as it had
appeared – but Camp Ellis has not been forgotten!
