Ink & Imprint Books celebrates local authors & beloved book series with July Events

Visit the Bookstore on July 16 for a Baby-Sitters Club Party and Local Author Showcase

[July 15, 2026]  LINCOLN, ILLINOIS — Ink & Imprint Books invites the community to visit the bookstore for a series of July events that are open to the public. July 16 is a particularly notable day, with back-to-back events.

First up, the bookstore is celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Baby-Sitters Club book series with a birthday bash. Baby-Sitters Club fans of all ages are welcome to stop by the store anytime between 3:30-5:00 p.m. on July 16 for games, giveaways and cookie decorating. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character from the book series.

“At Ink & Imprint Books, we love celebrating the books that shape peoples’ lives, and The Baby-Sitters Club is particularly notable because many generations of readers have grown up with these books and their characters,” said Julie Bates, Ink & Imprint Books owner.

Immediately following the Baby-Sitters Club party, Ink & Imprint Books is hosting its first-ever Local Author Showcase from 5 to 7 p.m. Four central Illinois authors are headlining the event. From 5 to 6 p.m., each author will read a brief selection from one of their books and talk about the books they have published. Then from 6 to 7 p.m., authors will be available to chat with customers and sign books.

The authors scheduled to appear include:

Ekta Garg, a fantasy writer from Champaign, Illinois, whose books include “The Truth About Elves,” “In the Heart of the Linden Wood,” and “The Witch’s Apprentice & Other Stories.”

Nancy Gooding, a versatile writer from Lincoln, Illinois, who has published many adult and children’s fiction books. “Whispered Warnings” and the Restoration historical fiction series are among her best-selling books.

Jules Kyle is the pen name for the author duo who has written the romance duology that includes “Royally Yours” and “Hopelessly Yours.” Stephie, one half of the writing duo, is a Bloomington, Illinois, resident who will be joining the showcase.

Kathy Swaar is a Lincoln, Illinois, resident who has written historical fiction (“Sophie”) and a self-help/spirituality book about grief called “Fine Lines.”

“It’s amazing how many talented authors call central Illinois home, and we’re excited to launch this new showcase format to celebrate their work and connect some of our favorite local authors to the community,” Bates said.

Other upcoming July events at the bookstore include a Third Friday sidewalk sale on July 17 from noon to 6 p.m., the Retail Therapy downtown shopping event Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a book signing/author meet and greet with local memoirist Cince Bowns from 11 a.m. to noon on July 25.
