Ink and Imprint hosts local authors and gives away prizes on Independent Bookstore Day

[April 30, 2025]  On Saturday, April 26th, Ink and Imprint hosted several local authors for Independent Bookstore Day. The event kicked off when Ink and Imprint opened at 10:00 a.m., but the authors did not start coming in until about 11:00. The authors included Jennifer and Emersyn Kieth, Kathy Swaar, Alivia Byers, Nancy Gooding, Sara Whitney, Linda Charron, A. Harper, and Dave Bishop. Each author was in for a period of time throughout the day signing books and talking to people. In addition to the authors being present, Ink and Imprint owner Julie Bates also had several raffles and other things going on.

For every ten dollars that someone spent throughout the day, they would receive one coupon that could be put into a drawing for one of several prizes. There was also a kids bookmark decorating contest. The winner will get a prize, and all of the bookmarks decorated are going to be laminated and sold in the store. All of the proceeds from the sale of these bookmarks are going to be donated to the Lincoln Public Library. In addition to these two contests/raffles, there was also a golden ticket hidden somewhere in the store. Whoever found this ticket would get twelve free audiobooks courtesy of Libro.fm.

Ink and Imprint also had decorated cookies from Missy’s Bakeshop free for people to eat. New t-shirts were available to buy. In addition to all of this, the first twenty-five people to spend $10 or more would get a sticker, and the first ten people to spend $50 or more would get a free tote bag.

Bates shared that she has a good relationship with local authors, as books from local authors can be found in most sections in the store. Bates labels these spots on the bookshelves so people know the books are from local authors. Some of these local authors come from communities in neighboring counties, such as Decatur and Petersburg, while others are from Logan County.
