Annual Senior Health Fair a big
draw at the Lincoln Park District

In its first hour, the Senior
Health Fair hosted by State Senator Sally Turner and Representative
Bill Hauter saw a large turn out of guests, most of them senior
citizens. The Thursday morning event, hosted at the Lincoln Park
District featured a dozens of tables set up and manned by
representatives of various organizations who assist local seniors in
maintaining quality of life in their golden years.
Among the vendors were various health organizations including
Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Springfield Clinic, Logan County
Department of Public Health and Walgreens. There were senior living
groups on hand such as Castle Manor, Help at Home, Synergy Home Care
and more. There were a variety of special needs tables such as the
Silver Fox Fitness, Educational Center for the Visually Impaired,
Senior Life Solutions, Logan County Veterans Assistance Commission
and others.
Also among the vendors were several state agencies, Logan County
Clerk, Senior Services of Central Illinois, The Oasis, Heartland
College and the Lincoln Park District.
Senator Turner and Representative Bill Hauter were both on hand
visiting with guests.
The day began in the front entrance with a representative of Senator
Turner, collecting registration forms and handing out swag bags.
Later in the morning, the
registration sheets were put in a basket and names were drawn for
door prizes. Turner and Hauter did the honor of drawing. The first
name drawn was present and a lovely senior lady came forward to
collect her gift. The next two names were not present. Turner said
winners did not have to be present, and would be contacted to come
and collect their prize.

After the first
set of drawings, the stage was taken over by Georgia Allison of
Silver Fox Fitness who invited everyone to join her at the stage
area for a sample workout of exercises geared to senior
participants.
There was also plenty of snacking opportunities. Help at Home
provided a fruit bar and there were sweet pastries, coffee and
bottled water laid out as well.
