ECVI launches 10‑year anniversary
celebration
with historic train experience for participants with vision loss
[March 20, 2026]
Springfield, IL – The
Educational Center for the Visually Impaired (ECVI) is kicking off
its 10 year anniversary celebration with a guided history train ride
and walking tour on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. More than 20
participants and 10 volunteers from Springfield, Decatur and Lincoln
will take part in this immersive, educational experience designed to
highlight independence, connection and the rich history of Central
Illinois.
The event marks the first in a year-long series of activities that
celebrate ECVI’s decade of service and mission to provide education,
training, and resources so that the visually impaired can live safe,
independent and fulfilling lives.

“ECVI is entering an exciting new
chapter,” said Peggy Dyson, ECVI Executive Director. “As we
celebrate 10 years of empowering individuals with vision loss, we
want our events to reflect the spirit of community, curiosity, and
resilience that defines our organization. This history train ride is
the perfect way to begin.”
Participants will gather at the Springfield Amtrak Train Station at
3rd and Jefferson Streets before boarding. The experience includes
historical storytelling, community building and an experience
designed to be fully accessible for individuals with vision loss.
