The Durable Restoration Company
shortlisted for prestigious international roofing award
[October 04, 2025]
LINCOLN, Ill. – September 2025
– The Durable Slate and Restoration Companies are proud to announce
their selection as finalists for the IFD (International Federation
of the Roofing Trade) Award, which recognizes the best of the best
in the roofing industry across the globe. Out of a whopping 130
total submissions, two Durable Restoration projects made the
shortlist—The Cathedral of St. Helena in Helena, Mont. and Heinz
Memorial Chapel in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The IFD Congress & Award is an esteemed ceremony which takes place
every two years and receives submissions from over a dozen nations
across the world, including Switzerland, Russia, China and the
United Kingdom. At the 2019 ceremony in Edinburgh, The Durable
Restoration Company became the first American company in 67 years to
take home a first-place trophy at this prestigious competition, in
recognition of their metalwork at Steeple Square in Dubuque, IA.
This year, The Durable Restoration Company is recognized in the
Metal Roofing category for their preservation of Heinz Memorial
Chapel’s striking flèche, which looms nearly 150 feet above the
slate roof of the building. This project spanned two years and
required
extremely precise planning and execution due to the fragile nature
of the flèche. The company’s “lift and relay” of the Cathedral of
St. Helena's century-old clay tile steeple roofs also stood out to
the judges, advancing to the top three in the Steep Slope
category.
Additionally, The Durable Slate Company's replacement of the Logan
County Courthouse dome in Lincoln, Ill., which received the NRCA
(National Roofing Contractors Association) Gold Circle Award earlier
this year, placed fourth in the Metal Roofing category. The company
also finished sixth place for their slate façade installation on the
Sweet Residence, a custom-built home in Bethesda, Md.

President of The Durable Slate Company. “We take immense pride in
our craftsmanship, and bringing
home first place at the IFD for a second time would be a monumental
achievement for our crews.”
The winning projects among the top three contenders in each category
