Lincoln band Diletta makes debut
performance

On Saturday, August 1st, local
band Diletta, made their debut at the Lincoln VFW. The members of
the band are all Lincoln locals. The show featured two opening acts
before Diletta took to the stage for the first time, playing their
music well into the night.
Diletta sat with LDN prior to the show and shared a bit about
themselves and their band. Members include bassist/keyboardist
Wolfgang Waibel, drummer/guitarist/singer Cole Hall, and
guitarist/lead singer/self-described ping-pong enthusiast, Jack
Solomon.
Solomon and Hall were in a band together previously with a different
third member. When Waibel tried for that group, the other member
left the band. The trio decided to rebrand, choosing the name
Diletta. Solomon said the name simply came to him a while back. He
had been holding onto that idea for a band name, and this turned out
to be the perfect opportunity to use it.
Each member of Diletta credits the adults in their lives for helping
introduce them to music. Waibel said that this grandma is a piano
teacher. “I played my first key before I could walk.”
Hall credits his father and band manager Will Hall for introducing
him to music. He started playing around the age of five. Solomon
said that, while his parents never played instruments, they listened
to various styles and artists that helped to garner his interest in
music from a young age as well.
The three said they have diverse interests and experience with their
musical tastes, which lends some variety in the songs they write and
perform. Waibel is into jazz, Hall is into traditional rock, and
Solomon is into rock and folk.
Diletta is not all for fame and
fortune. They hope to inspire younger members of the community to
take up music or even start a band. Diletta seeks to bring live
music back to Lincoln. “We want to inspire people,” Hall said.
“We’re here to play and show our music, but we’re also here to
inspire kids [to say] 'hey, let’s pick up a guitar, hey let’s start
a band.'”
The venue opened to the public at 6
p.m. and music started an hour later. There was a good crowd that
filled all the available seating in the room. They were eager to
hear the music, applauding after each song and performer.
The host of the night, Shawn
Miller, introduced the first opener, Noah Dunham, a Lincoln native.
Dunham came to the stage and explained this was his first
performance that was not an “open-mic night.”
Dunham played a mix of cover songs
and original music for about 45 minutes. He played an acoustic
guitar and sang by himself on the stage. Each song was followed with
loud applause from the audience.

Next, Miller introduced the second
opener to the stage, electric guitarist Lucas Bandy from Auburn,
Illinois. Like Dunham, this was his first official gig. Despite some
technical issues, the audience cheered him on and then asked for
more.
Bandy’s songs were notably longer
than Dunham’s, with many well performed electric guitar solos. Bandy
left the stage after a 45-minute set, thus clearing the way for
Diletta.
The house lights were turned down,
allowing the stage lights to shine even brighter in the dark room.
Diletta’s full band performance was much louder than the two opening
acts. While Diletta performed a handful of covers, the focus was on
their talent and original music.
Hall heavily encouraged the
audience members to get up and come to the middle of the room to
dance, and after some prompting there were over a dozen people in
front of the stage.
In addition to their performance,
the members of Diletta were very personable and injected fun into
their show. They joked around with each other and the audience.
Guitar picks were even thrown from the stage to waiting fans. Hall
left the stage to dance with the audience for a minute while Waibel
and Solomon performed a cover of Everlong by the Foo Fighters. The
crowd seemed to enjoy the band and the energy that they brought.
