Central Illinois Veteran Commission (CIVC) to host 1st Annual Campout for Veteran Homelessness

[April 11, 2026]  Central Illinois Veteran Commission is hosting the 1st annual Campout for Veteran Homelessness April 24th starting at 6pm until 9am on April 25th at Memorial Park in Lincoln. The purpose of the campout is to raise money and awareness for veteran homelessness, and proceeds will go toward providing homes and a better quality of life for those who served our country.

At 6:00pm On Friday we will have a brief ceremony and speech regarding veteran homelessness followed by setting up cardboard boxes and preparing for the night. To recreate the homeless experience that far too many veterans face, we will provide cardboard boxes for those brave enough to sleep in them for the night. Campers are also welcome to bring their own tents if they prefer. Light camp snacks will be provided, and around 8:00 will be an award for the best patriotic/military themed box and trophies for the top fund raisers. There is a suggested donation of $100.00 for the “camping fee” but any monetary donation will be accepted. All money goes to Central Illinois Veterans Commission. Event ends at 09:00am Sunday morning.
