Logan County Exploring Plans for
Countywide Bike Path
Community invited to learn more and
provide input on proposed trail connecting communities across Logan
County

path connecting communities across Logan County?
The Logan County Board, with support from the Logan County Tourism
Bureau, Village of Elkhart and Logan County Highway Department, is
exploring plans for a new multi-use trail that could eventually
stretch across Logan County, connecting with existing trails,
creating alternatives to motorized travel, and creating new
opportunities for recreation, tourism and community connectivity.
Community members are invited to learn more about the proposed
project and share their input at a public meeting on Wednesday
September 23rd at the Linc Room in the Old Bank building in downtown
Lincoln.
Community Meeting: Proposed Logan County Bike Path

The long-term vision is to create a trail through Logan County that
would connect with existing trail systems near Williamsville to the
south and McLean to the north, helping link communities and
destinations throughout the county.
The project would also position Logan County to take advantage of
state funding available through the Illinois Transportation
Enhancement Program (ITEP). This year, the Illinois Department of
Transportation is accepting applications for the competitive grant
program, which provides funding for projects including bicycle and
pedestrian infrastructure. Eligible projects may receive up to $5
million in funding.
The Logan County Board and its partners are working to develop an
application for the program. An important part of that process is
demonstrating community interest and support for the proposed
project.

“We want to hear
directly from Logan County residents about whether this is
something they would like to see in our communities,” said Karen
Conn, board member of the Logan County Tourism Bureau and
trustee on the Village of Elkhart Board. “This meeting is an
opportunity for people to learn more about the vision, ask
questions and learn how they can get involved in shaping and
supporting a project like this moving forward.”
A countywide trail could provide Logan County residents with
additional opportunities for walking, biking and outdoor
recreation while also creating a new tourism asset capable of
drawing cyclists and visitors to communities and businesses
throughout the county.
Residents, business owners, community leaders, cyclists, walkers
and anyone interested in the future of trails and outdoor
recreation in Logan County are encouraged to attend.
