2026 Balloons Over 66 5K Run

[September 01, 2026]  Runners completed the Balloons Over 66 5k before the heat and humidity set in on Saturday morning. At 8:00, runners got the green light at the Lincoln Park District. The runners took off down Primm, which was lined with Lincoln Junior High and High School cheerleaders cheering them on. The running path then led the runners from Primm Road to Wyatt Avenue, and then they took a left turn onto Home Avenue, where they looped around and returned on the same route. Lincoln Police assisted with traffic control and ensured the runners' safety. Some friends and family of runners were scattered throughout the running path, snapping pictures and cheering on their loved ones.

When the runners returned to cross the finish line set up in the Lincoln Park District’s parking lot, they were rewarded with a medal that had a blue neck ribbon, and the medallion featured a Route 66 logo. Volunteers handed out the medals as each participant finished. Several also gathered here to greet their loved ones as they crossed the finish line.
