Logan County 40 & 8 Voiture 985 presents food pantry donations

[April 01, 2026]  On Monday night, Logan County 40 & 8 Voiture 985 presented their annual contribution to Logan County food pantries.

At their last meeting, the members voted to renew their $200 contributions to food pantries at Holy Family Church, Atlanta Christian Church, Jefferson Street Christian Church, and Lincoln Logan Food Pantry. After Commander Mike Kavanaugh called the meeting to order and the Pledge of Allegiance, Karen Petty accepted the donation on behalf of Holy Family Church.

The discussion then turned to reminders of upcoming events. They are currently selling raffle tickets for a Henry Rifle. The drawing will take place at their April meeting. They will also be selling ribeye and pork chop sandwiches at IGA in Lincoln on July 25th. The proceeds from these fundraisers support their programs, including food pantry donations and their nursing scholarship program. The scholarship program is open to Logan County students seeking an education in the nursing field, and students may reapply as they advance in their nursing degrees. They are currently accepting scholarship applications.

The 40 & 8 was founded in 1920 as a branch of the American Legion with the mission to support the Constitution, assist veterans and their families, and run programs such as child welfare and nurse training. The group’s name comes from the French rail system used in World War I, where boxcars could carry 40 men or 8 horses. Members are honorably discharged veterans and those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
