Zion Eagles Prepare to Soar at LSA
State Track Meet

The Zion Lutheran School-Lincoln boys and girls track teams
are completing a successful 2026 season on the track. Four new
school records were set and 7 athletes qualified for the Lutheran
Sport Association State Track meet, to be held at Concordia
University-Chicago, May 15-16. Collectively, these athletes
qualified for 2 relays and 12 individual events.
State competitors will include Sophia Cook (triple jump, high jump,
long jump, 4 x 200 relay), Kennedy Buche (triple jump, 100m, 200m, 4
x 200 relay), Olivia Wrage (Discus, 4 x 200 relay), Alex Cook (100m
hurdles, 4 x 200 relay), Ivy Boyd (Discus, 4 x 200 relay alternate),
and Aera Merritt (4 x 200 relay alternate). Sophia and Kennedy each
qualified for additional events but were out of individual spots to
add these for the weekend (Sophia, 100m and 200m; Kennedy, High
Jump). The girls 4 x 800m relay team of Norah Judd, Kennedy Buche,
Olivia Wrage, and Sophia Cook also qualified but will not run due to
entry limits.
Four school records were set at Zion Lutheran School this year.
These include a 32’ 10.25” Triple Jump by Sophia Cook, breaking the
record set by Reese McCuan in 2018. Sophia was also a part of the
record breaking 4 x 800m relay team of Kennedy Buche, Norah Judd,
Olivia Wrage, and Sophia Cook running a 13:02.85 for this race. Ivy
Boyd, Calla Klemm, Aera Merritt, and Alex Cook set the record of
5:57.54 for the Girls’ Sprint Medley Relay and Colton Kuhlman, Jayce
Naugle, Zayden Buche, and Silas Judd ran 5:49.74 to set the Boys’
Sprint Medley Relay record. For the 2026 season, all 5th-8th grade
ZLS athletes earned a school record! The 4th grade teammates of Ryan
Tomkinson, Braxton Brickey, and Brylee Richart set many personal
bests as well as they started with their first year on the track
team. The ZLS Eagles are coached by Zion Mt. Pulaski Alumni
Elizabeth (Stoll) Wrage and Zion Lincoln Alumni Danna (O’Brien)
Buche.

The 36th Annual LSA State Track Meet begins with a Parade of Schools
at 9 am Saturday with girls running events to follow and the girls
field events will compete later that day. Sunday includes a worship
service at Concordia’s campus chapel followed by running event
finals. Updates will be shared throughout the weekend on the Zion
Lutheran School Facebook page.
