WLB runners to compete at State in
Cross Country
[October 18, 2025]
Piper Craig and Rowynn Fink from West Lincoln Broadwell will
be running in the 2025 Girls Class 1A State Cross Country Meet today
at Maxwell Park in Normal.
Craig, a 7th grader, finished in 6th place overall at the Class 1A
Sectional Meet at Eastview in Normal with a time of 13:38.2. Craig
is a back-to-back state qualifier. She just missed a PR by nine
seconds at sectionals.
Fink, a 6th grader, finished close behind Craig and also earned a
top 10 medal. Fink finished in 7th place overall with a PR of
13:40.2 at sectionals. She got her PR by eight seconds.
Angela Craig, who is in her second year as the Cross Country coach
at WLB, said to qualify for the state meet runners must finish in
the top 7 as an individual or be part of the top 3 teams at
sectionals.
“My team last year was only two boys and two girls,” said Craig.
“This year we grew and had seven girls and five boys.”
Craig was excited to add, “This year we were able to score during
races as a team. To score as a team, you must have at least five
runners, but can run up to seven runners. Our girls team placed 4th,
just shy of 3rd place by 29 points. Our boys finished in 9th place.”
“We had five PR’s at sectionals,” continued Craig. “I am super proud
of our team this year and we’ve got big goals to try to get more
kids to State next year.”
