Mt. Pulaski Toppers win 8th grade regional championship

[January 30, 2026]  The Mount Pulaski Toppers defeated Morrisonville Junior High 39-35 to win the Class 8-2A Regional Championship on Thursday night in Nokomis.

Cash Bassett led Mount Pulaski with 15 points.

Sronte Siebert tallied 12 points for the Toppers.

Mount Pulaski took a 14-11 advantage over Morrisonville in the first quarter. Sronte Siebert led the way with eight points.

By halftime the Toppers were holding on to a 21-19 lead. Cash Bassett made a three in the second quarter and he would carry the hot hand in the second half.

With Bassett pouring in seven points in the third quarter, the Toppers were able to stay on top 31-28.

Broxton Davis had four points in the fourth quarter and Bassett added another three-pointer as the Toppers pulled away with a 39-35 win.

First-year junior high Toppers head coach Ryan Davis is off to a good start with this group and he is understandably very proud of this team. It’s been a few years since a Mount Pulaski boys team won a basketball regional.

“We’ve learned how to play together over the course of the season,” said Davis. “We are able to accentuate each other’s strengths better now. We know we won’t play perfect but we don’t let that affect our effort. It’s all about energy, excitement and execution with this group of eighth graders. I couldn’t be prouder of them and this is something I’ve never done as a head coach before.”
