Logan County track and field loaded with State Qualifiers

[May 14, 2026]  Once again Logan County is filled with some amazing athletes who are ready to make their mark this weekend at the 2026 IESA Class 1A and 2A State Track and Field Championships at EastSide Centre in East Peoria.

Forty-two athletes from Chester-East Lincoln, West Lincoln Broadwell, Mount Pulaski and Hartsburg-Emden will be representing Logan County and their respective schools on the big track on the hill this Friday and Saturday.

Chester East Lincoln

First of all, congratulations to the CEL 7th Grade Boys Track and Field team. The Panthers won the Sectional Championship on Saturday at Handlin Field in Lincoln. They edged out Pekin Rankin by five points.

This weekend the Panthers will have twelve athletes competing in seven different events.

Liam Brandt is an 8th grader returning to state competition in the discus. He will also compete in the shot put.

Cruze Komnick is a 7th grader going to State in the 100m and 200m.

The 7th grade boys 4x100 relay team is ready for Eastside and they are Bennett Wilson, Eli Maynard, Owen Coleman and Cruze Komnick. Dawson Kilmartin is the alternate.

The 7th grade girls 4x200m relay is impressive and this year’s team is Izzy Toft, Luci Gallagher, Maya Leesman and Aubrey Shull. Kinzley Bolen is the alternate.

These girls also run the SMR 1600m relay with Stella Eimer as the alternate.

The Panthers are coached by the mother and son duo of Erica Maynard and Evan Maynard. Kaylee Winebrinner and Heather Murphy are the assistant coaches.

West Lincoln Broadwell

West Lincoln Broadwell has ten athletes competing in nine events.

Colby Bowman returns to State in the 110m hurdles.

Audrina Wilson will be running the girls 110m hurdles.

Brodie Glenn will run the boys 100m and 200m while Piper Craig will run the girls 100m and 400m.

WLB has one relay team participating at State and that will be the SMR 1600m relay team consisting of: Ryker Fricke, Jaylen Matherly, Hunter Craig, Hudson Glenn and alternates Bowden Fink and Kaleb Eigenbrod.

In field events Ryker Fricke will throw the discus and Piper Craig will be in the high jump.

The Wolverines are coached by Tiffany Battin, Angela Craig and Mark Fricke.

Mount Pulaski

Mount Pulaski is sending six athletes to East Peoria this weekend.

Addison Deibert, an 8th grader, qualified in the long jump for the second year in a row.

Isaac Davis is a 7th grader who qualified in the long jump and the high jump.

Sronte Siebert is heading back to State in the 800m.

Mount Pulaski also has a boys team in the SMR 1600m relay. Luke Olson, Broxton Davis, Cooper Kretzinger and Sronte Siebert have one of the top times in 8AA for this relay, which is a new event for junior high athletes. Their top time is 4:06.31.

The Toppers are coached by Mindy Switzer and Jamie Anderson.

Hartsburg-Emden

The Stags are taking a fourteen athletes to EastSide this weekend and they will be extremely busy competing in twelve events.

Owen Ferguson has made a name for himself in the track and field world and he will compete in the 800m, the 1600m, the discus and the 4x400m relay team. Ferguson is an 8th grader this year. He is joined on the 4x400m relay team by William Boerma, Graham Hampton and Alek Lueck for the second year in a row.

The 8th grade 4x100m relay team with Lueck, Boerma and Hampton will also compete at State and Raef Whitted completes this relay team.

The Stag 8th graders, who finished second to Greenview in the sectional meet last Saturday, also qualified in the SMR 1600m relay. Ryan Wrage joins Whitted, Hampton and Boerma here.

Alek Lueck will also run the 400m race.

Ryan Wrage qualified in the 8th grade boys shot put and discus.

Courtney Cecil qualified for State in the high jump for the second year in a row for the girls team.

Lila Cross, a 7th grader, will be busy in the 800m, the discus and a relay team.

Cross is part of the SMR 1600m girls team featuring Addie Wetherell, Jaelynn Hinch and Avia Leesman.

The Stags are coached by McKenna Lucas and Alex Vetter.

Mount Pulaski competed in the Class 2A sectional at South Fork.

CEL, WLB and Hartsburg-Emden all competed in the Class 1A sectional at Lincoln.

Friday
The competitor gates open at 9:00 a.m.

The general public gate will open at 9:30 a.m.

The Parade of Athletes will be at 10:15 a.m.

The field events will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the pole vault being the first event.

The running events will begin at 1:15 p.m. with the girls low hurdle prelims.

The last running event is scheduled for 6:20 p.m. Friday night.

Saturday
The competitor gates open at 7:00 a.m.

The general public gate will open at 7:30 a.m.

The Parade of Athletes will be at 8:20 a.m.

The field events and running events will begin at 9:00 a.m.

with the last running event scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
