Lincoln Railsplitters Track and Field girls ready for State

[May 21, 2026]  It’s that time of the year again when the hard work and dedication of a track and field athlete is showcased in just a few short months of a school season, culminating with a trip to the IHSA Class 2A Girls State Track and Field Championships at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Once again, LCHS features several athletes who qualified for State and a handful of them are competing in more than one event.

Kyli Lund and Bailey Tungate are making their return to State in the 4x400m relay and they are joined by Natalie Geary and freshman Taylor Short this year.

Geary is also competing in the 400m at State.

Short will make her IHSA state debut on the EIU track in the 800m and 1600m.

Tungate qualified in the 100m hurdles.

Sophomore Addy Campbell will compete in both the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles. Campbell set a new school record in the 100m hurdles.

Junior Addy Varner will throw the discus at State.

These girls competed at the IHSA Class 2A TRG Sectional at Metamora last Wednesday with the 4x400m relay team qualifying for State with a time of 4:08.64.

Geary qualified in the 400m with a time of 59.82.

There is no doubt that freshman Taylor Short, who follows the success of her older sister, Mallory, will make her own mark at Charleston. The freshman ran the 800m in 2:17.75, finishing second at the sectional meet. Short ran the 1600m in 5:16.92, finishing first in the sectional meet.

Campbell came in third at sectionals with a time of 15.21 in the 100m hurdles.

Tungate made the cut with a time of 16.04 in the 100m hurdles.

Campbell qualified in the 300m hurdles with a time of 48.07.

Addy Varner finished in second place at sectionals in the discus throw. She threw 119’ 10” which was just four inches off the leader’s throw.

The Prelims get underway Friday at Charleston with the state finals scheduled for Saturday.
