Railers beat Collinsville 42-38 in overtime, advance to 5th place game in holiday tourney

[December 29, 2025]  COLLINSVILLE – Karson Komnick scored 29 of Lincoln’s 38 points as the Railers overcame a sluggish second quarter to win 42-38 in overtime and advance to the fifth place game of the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Classic.

“We still have our goal in sight, and that was to go 3 and 1 when we came down here,” Alexander said. “Playing here is historical; it’s a great place to play basketball.”

Collinsville got on the scoreboard first with a field goal, but the Railers answered back with three pointers from Komnick and Tate Aue to take a 6-2 lead.

The Kahoks scored the last three points of the quarter plus the first five points of the second period to take a 10-6 lead. The teams played fairly evenly the remainder of the first half, and with the score 16-12 in the final minute. Komnick made a back door cut to the basket and went up for a layup. His shot was blocked, although it appeared he was fouled on the play. When no foul was called, Alexander sprung from the bench to voice his displeasure and was assessed a technical foul. Collinsville made the ensuing pair of free throws and the Kahoks took 18-12 lead at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to Komnick, as he scored all 10 points the Railers scored in the period. The Railer senior hit all four of his free throw attempts as well as three of seven field goal attempts, the last one cutting the Collinsville advantage to 24-22 as he outscored Collinsville 10-6 in the quarter.

The fourth quarter saw the Kahok lead grow to eight points when CaMauri Mayes hit three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt. The Railers then went on an 11-2 run over the next four and a half minutes, the last two points coming on a pair of Brody Tungate free throws with 17 seconds remaining in the game to give Lincoln a 35-34 lead.

Collinsville got the ball to CaMauri Mayes for a shot. His shot bounced off the rim and was grabbed Jordan Taylor. He fell to the floor as he tried tipping the ball toward the rim. As the buzzer sounded to signal the end of regulation, officials called a foul on Komnick and Taylor was awarded two free throws. His first attempt was good and tied the game 35-35, but the second shot bounded off the rim. That sent the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Bryce Vlahovich hit a quick three-pointer to give Lincoln a 38-35 lead. Mayes answered with a trey for Collinsville, knotting the score at 38-38.

The remaining scoring came from Komnick, who hit all four of his free throw attempts as Lincoln won 42-38.

Komnick led all players with 29 points. He shot eight of 21 on field goals, including two of seven on three pointers. He hit all 11 free throw attempts and grabbed nine rebounds.

Collinsville was led by DeAndre Brown with 10 points.

Overall, Lincoln shot 27.5 percent (11 for 40) from the field while the Kahoks hit 12 of 37 (32.4 percent) on field goal attempts.

The Railers made 16 of 19 free throws; Collinsville hit 10 of 11 attempts.

The victory moved Lincoln’s record to 11-3 and sends the Railers to the fifth place game against Belleville East at 2:30 on Monday.
