[May 19, 2025]

in Class 1A competition on Saturday, several other local athletes
won medals in the 2025 IESA Class 1A and 2A State Track and Field

Maebri Bender, an 8th grader at MPGS, has quite the story. This is
her first year going out for the track and field team and she really
did amazing. On Friday, her name was called over the loudspeaker as
a “last call” while the other shot putters were warming up. Bender
was just trying to find her way to the shot put area amidst the
crowd of 2700 athletes who fill up the area in and around the East
Peoria football field and track. The entrances for the athletes are
tricky because of all the fencing surrounding the area.
Bender arrived in the nick of time, took two quick warmup tosses,
adjusted her sunglasses and said, “I’m good” to the official. She
got in line in the no. 6 position and waited for her turn. Her first
toss of 8.88m or 29’ 1.75” looked effortless and it would turn out
to be her best toss of the day. She won her flight and that 8.88m
would be her new PR. It was good enough to earn her a 7th place
medal and recognition at the podium. She also hit 8.55m a couple
times, throwing it nearly in the exact same spot each time.
Addison Deibert, a 7th grader, finished in 9th place in the long
jump. Deibert jumped 13’ 10.5” or 4.23 meters.
Taylah Wakeman, a 7th grader, finished in 15th place in the 400m
with a time of 1:09.32.

A trio of Stags did very well at EastSide over the weekend and with
such a young group, you can bet they’ll have their eye on a repeat
trip next season.

time of 1:02.43.
Courtney Cecil, a 7th grader, finished in 10th place in the high
jump with a jump of 4’ 2”.
Congratulations to all of the athletes on a successful end to their
season.
