HartEm Stags win 8th grade regional
championship
[January 30, 2026]
The Hartsburg-Emden Stags defeated Washington St. Patrick
39-25 to win the Class 8-1A Regional Championship on Thursday night
in Hartsburg.
Owen Ferguson poured in 22 points to lead the Stags in the win.
The Stags were winning 6-0 after the first quarter.
By halftime the Stags were dominating Washington St. Patrick 18-3.
The Stags still held a respectable 26-17 lead when the third quarter
ended.
Ferguson and Whitted combined to go 7-for-8 from the free throw line
in the fourth quarter as these Stags became back-to-back regional
champions with the 39-25 victory.

Stags head coach Ron Spencer was very proud of his team and their
defense, in particular, following the regional championship.
“Our man to man defense just simply overwhelmed them in the first
half,” said Spencer. “It was just so good.”
“These guys (all of them) just work so hard. We have come so far as
a program in the last four years and to win back to back regionals
is just so special for these guys. They have a work ethic and
dedication that makes coaching them so easy. We will enjoy the night
and then go back to work to prepare for Pontiac St. Mary’s.”
