- Lawrence E. “Larry” Ball, 88, of Decatur (formerly of Mt. Pulaski
and Lincoln), passed away on August 20, 2026, at The Loft
Rehabilitation of Rock Springs in Decatur.

Obituary
Lawrence E. “Larry”
Ball, 88, of Decatur (formerly of Mt. Pulaski and
Lincoln), passed away on August 20, 2026, at The
Loft Rehabilitation of Rock Springs in Decatur.
Larry was born on March 23, 1938, in Buffalo Hart,
IL., the son of George O. and Margaret F. (Fay )
Ball. Larry first married Julia Brooks and they
later divorced. He then married Phyllis (Medford)
Shull on April 7, 1989. She preceded him in death on
September 12, 2024.
Larry is survived by his children, Rick (Kim) Ball,
Cathy (Mike) McCubbin; his step-children, Lori
(Mike) Yeck, Carol Jane (Scott) Holmes, Rick
(Stephanie) Shull, and Carrie (Pat) Lopetrone. He is
also survived by 18 grandchildren and 31 great
grandchildren; his 2 sisters, Sandra Mason, Bobbie
Termine, and 1 brother, Kirby Ball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife,
Phyllis, and 2 sisters, Julia “Judy” Stewart, and
Joan Bridgewater. |

Larry was a Rural Mail
Carrier in Riverton and a part time Police Officer
for the City of Mt. Pulaski for many years. He also
owned Modern Plumbing and Heating and served as an
EMT-I for the Mt. Pulaski Ambulance Service. Larry
was a member of Mt. Pulaski Christian Church, and he
also served as a Juvenile Officer of the court and
spent many hours pouring into the youth through the
church and the community.
A private graveside service for Larry will take
place at a later date Roselawn Memorial Park in
Springfield. Memorials may be made in Larry’s memory
to Mt. Pulaski Christian Church. Arrangements have
been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader in Mt.
Pulaski.
