Obituary
Del F. Southern, 85,
of Latham passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at
St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, IL.
Del was born September 25, 1940, in Latham, IL, the
son of Delbert and Mary (Alsup) Southern. He married
Sandra Hilliard on December 31, 1960 in Elkhart, IL.
Del is survived by his wife, Sandi; his sons, Craig
(Debbie) Southern, Matthew (Daphne) Southern, Joel
(Carey) Southern, and Ryan (Alison) Southern; his
sister, Connie (Bennett) Biscan; his sister-in-law,
Karen Hilliard; and his grandchildren, Marissa, Ava,
Thomas, Paul, Daniel, Linley, and Nathan.
Del was preceded in death by his parents.
Del was a lifelong farmer in Logan and Macon
Counties. He was a seed salesman for many years as
well. He was an accomplished basketball and baseball
player at Warrensburg-Latham High School and
Illinois Wesleyan College.

Del played in the
minor leagues in baseball for the Baltimore Orioles.
Del’s greatest joy in his later years was watching
his grandchildren play sports and perform on the
stage.
Services for Del will
be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 24, 2026, at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski,
IL. Visitation will take place the evening prior, on
Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm, also
at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services
at Lake Bank Cemetery in Mt. Pulaski, IL. Memorial
donations may be made in Del’s name to the
Warrensburg-Latham Athletic Boosters Club.
