She married her forever sweetheart Ira T. “Tommie” Halsey on December 17, 1965. He died on July 23, 2018, after 53 years of marriage. She married Tom’s family and was immediately in love with them and became a much-loved sister-in-law and aunt.

She is survived by her son: Brett (Casey) of Hoover, AL and a grandson: Gavin of Scottsdale, AZ and granddaughter: Harper of Hoover, AL. Also surviving is a half-sister: Dora Duvall of Bloomington; 21 nieces and nephews, 43 great-nieces and nephews, her best friend: Rita Beyer, and faithful companion, Jackie, her rescue dog.

Her mother, stepdad: James Duvall, and brother: JL Duvall proceeded her in death.

Virginia retired from GTE in 1994 after 33 years, then worked at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center for 12 years. Upon retiring, she owned her own business, Halsey Signing Agent, and worked until her death.

She deeply loved her family, friends, animals, food, and going out to eat every Saturday night with Linda, Sherry, Kely, and Jenny, and Sunday brunch with Janet, Rick and Jenny. Also, Rita whenever she decided to go, and Sundays to her house and most holidays.

Virginia would Facebook, call, message or text often, sending words of encouragement or jokes to the great-nieces and great-nephews. She had a wonderful life and loved life, meeting nieces once a month for lunch and semi-monthly with Diana, Debbie and Rick at the Country Aire. Her laugh was contagious, and she was always smiling. Believing the best in people, she had the best life and loved life to its fullest.
