Service: There will be no services.

Carol Lynn Jacobsen, 77, of Bloomington, IL (formerly of Lincoln, IL) passed away on April 25, 2025, at OSF Hospital in Bloomington, IL.

Carol was born on September 26, 1947, to Richard and Barbara Jostes in Decatur, Illinois. They preceded her in death. She has three brothers – Mark (Diane) Jostes of Moweaqua, IL, Brent Jostes of Moweaqua, IL, and Randy Jostes (who preceded her in death), as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was married to Laren McCarthy from 1967-1980. They have two beautiful daughters, Kay (Paul) Ebelherr of Lincoln, IL, and Kellene (John) LaMothe of Port Charlotte, FL. Grandchildren are Payton (Jacqueline) Ebelherr, and Preston (Emma) Ebelherr, Brittani (Dustin) Camp. Carol married William Becker August 11, 1998, who preceded her in death. He has four children – Kathryn Becker, Joseph (Leanna) Becker, Patricia Becker, and Daniel Becker. Carol married William Jacobsen on June 12, 2018, in Sarasota, FL. He preceded her in death. His children are Kim (Mark) Courville and William P. (Brenda) Jacobsen.

Carol attended grade school in Bethany, IL and graduated high school in Moweaqua, IL. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree at Illinois State University. She dedicated her career to educating children, including teaching at Hay Edward’s School, Chester-East Lincoln, Mt. Pulaski grade school, and Metcalf Laboratory School. She went on to work as a principal at Meadowbrook School and Lincoln Elementary School District #27.

After retirement, Carol was able to enjoy her time traveling the world. She moved from Lincoln, IL to sunny Sarasota, Florida where she resided for many years before she felt the need to move back to Illinois to be near family.

Carol wished to be remembered as a loving devoted mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and educator who embraced lifelong learning and exhibited a creative and adventuresome spirit.

Her hopes for others are to welcome change and to work together for peace and harmony focusing on similarities not differences. Her spirit can be found flying with the angels.

Carol was an organ/body donor. There will be no services. Cremation rites accorded by Carmody Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington, IL. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
