Obituary
Daniel McLaughlin was
born August 11, 1944, in Moline, Illinois to the
late Joseph and Betty McLaughlin. He passed on March
22, 2026, in Lincoln, Illinois with his family by
his side.
Dan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; and
sons, Michael (Colleen) of Homer Glen, IL, and Tom
(Brittney) of Lincoln, IL. His grandchildren are
Jacob (Missy) of Naperville, IL, Mitchell, of
Nashville, TN, and Aubrey of Homer Glen, IL. His
great-granddaughter is Isla Rae McLaughlin of
Naperville, IL; and his sisters Mary (John) Foster
of Mount Joy, IA, and Judy (Tim) Greene of Moline,
IL also survive.
Dan enjoyed friends (The Silver Bullets) and playing
football at Alleman Catholic High School in Rock
Island, IL. His college days were spent at Northwest
Missouri State University in Maryville, MO, where he
received a bachelor’s degree. He continued his
education at Illinois State University in
Bloomington, IL, where he received his master’s
degree. Both degrees were in theatre and led to an
award-winning 40-year career in coaching, directing,
and teaching.
Dan’s pastimes were
varied and included acting and directing in several
Lincoln Community Theatre productions, driving and
showing off his 1970 Chevy Impala convertible,
playing and singing with his guitar, and playing
golf (The Geezers). |
The family thanks the
care and compassion shown by Home Instead and
Gentiva Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider
gifts to the Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation,
which will be directed to the Acute Care Unit and
the Physical Therapy Department in Lincoln, IL. The
staff of both areas provided outstanding care for
Dan on many occasions over the past several years.
Dan cared deeply for his family and friends and had
a special place in his heart for his students. He
was truly blessed.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am on
Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic
Church in Lincoln, IL. Visitation will take place
prior from 9:00 - 11:00 am, also at the church. A
gathering at the KC Hall will follow the mass.
Please join the family to celebrate a life well
lived. Arrangements have been entrusted to
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
