Obituary
Wayne S. Hanner Sr.
was born January 23, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois.
Wayne was a lifelong
member of Elkhart Methodist Church, where he met his
beloved “Kay-ball”. They wed on January 27, 1951 and
enjoyed 71 years of marriage before her passing.
Although Wayne is reunited with his beloved wife, he
leaves behind a large family that will miss him.
Wayne was proud of his
large family and would often look around in wonder
at what he and Kay created. He leaves behind his
daughters: Dianne (Lyle) Fout, Boo Hanner, Cheri
(Nubs) Gieseke, and Terri (Brian Hutchison) Jean. He
also appreciated the fun antics of his 11
grandchildren: Traci (Eric) Graue, Justin (Lora)
Brown, Ashley (Dirk) Aper, Nibs Gieseke, Duane
(Heather) Gieseke, Brent Gieseke, Jessica (Kevin)
Foran, Nicole (Craig) Erlenbush, Andy (Danielle)
Meister, Amy (Tim) Davis, Alexa (Josiah) Klokkenga,
nephew Robb (Laura) Hanner and their son Nick.
Wayne’s family
continued to grow as 28 great-grandchildren have
been added over the years. He leaves them behind:
Lauren, Andrew, Parker, Carson, Avery, Nora, Devin,
Rylan, Hensley, Willow, Dawson, Grayson, Palmer,
Ava, Emerson, Saylor, Graham, Alma, Eliza, Theo,
Jack, Livi, Ella, Millie, Nellie, Harrison, Sadie
Lou, Luke, and 2 more on the way.
Wayne is preceded in
death by his wife, Kay Hanner, a son, Wayne (Nick)
Hanner Jr., granddaughter Michelle Conrady-Brown,
and brother Larry Hanner. He was reunited with those
loved ones, as he took his last breath on February
22, 2026.
Throughout his life,
Wayne made sure to take care of his family and loved
ones while speaking his mind. He had a lovingly
stubborn way about him that left others shaking
their heads and smiling. He will be remembered for
his distinguished "whistle" and “Whoop, Whoop,
Whoop,” not to mention his famous "Super Pickles"
and crackers with butter (his favorite snack).
When Wayne wasn’t with
family or friends, Wayne could be found driving
around in his red truck, spending time on the farm
where he raised cattle and crops up until his
passing (79 years).
A private family
service will be arranged at a later time. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made in memory of Wayne to
Elkhart Fire and Rescue.
Peasley Funeral Home
is in charge of arrangements.
