Obituary

John R. Beaver, 84, of Lincoln, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at The Villas Senior Care in Sherman.

John was born November 18, 1941, in Lincoln, IL, the son of Paul Beaver, Sr. and Mildred (Blaum) Beaver. He married Kathleen McAtee on November 27, 1965, in Elkhart. She preceded him in death in 2021.

John is survived by his sons, Brian (Christine) Beaver and Brad (Michele) Beaver; grandchildren, Kyleigh (Cole) Callahan, Brandon Beaver, Caitlin Beaver, and Corey Beaver; one great-granddaughter, Millie Ann Callahan; and one great-grandson on the way. He also leaves behind two cat companions, Max and Callie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen; and siblings, Paul (Sue) Beaver Jr., Judith Coogan, and infant sister, Rose.

John was an English and Language Arts teacher at Mason City/Illini Central Middle school for thirty-five years. While teaching, he coached boys’ basketball, baseball, and track for ten years. He was an avid golfer and gardener. John fished and raised Chester White Show Pigs for many years. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bears, The Fighting Illini, and the Chicago White Sox.

John was part of the last graduating class of ISNU before it became Illinois State University (ISU) where he received his master’s degree in counseling. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, where he also served as an elder.

John always enjoyed crossing paths with his former students, visiting and having conversations, and hearing more about their current lives. There weren't many places John would go where he didn't know someone or have a connection. He never met a stranger. Most of all, John loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services for John will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Visitation will take place the night prior on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 3:00 - 7:00 pm at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Burial will follow the service at Lucas Chapel Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be made in John’s name to Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
