[January 20, 2026]  LINCOLN - Vernon L. “Big German/Vern” Dierker, 84, of Lincoln (formerly of Mt. Pulaski) passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at St. Clara’s Rehab and Senior Center.

Service:  Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut

Obituary

Vernon L. “Big German/Vern” Dierker, 84, of Lincoln (formerly of Mt. Pulaski) passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at St. Clara’s Rehab and Senior Center.

Vern was born on January 27, 1941, in Chestnut, the son of Alvin “Bud” and Carmen (Callison) Dierker. He married Linda Kuhns on August 27, 1961, at Chestnut, IL. She survives.

Vern is also survived by his two daughters, Laura (Jim) Brachok and Lee Ann (Ken) Colbert; two grandchildren, Jared and Kelsey (Jon); his siblings, Edward Dierker, Ronnie (Vickie) Dierker, and Marian Rodgers, and his Jack Russell Terrier and buddy, “JoJo”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and one infant sister, Jeanette.

Vern was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut. He grew up on the family farm outside of Chestnut, and graduated from Mt. Pulaski High School in 1959, where he played center for the Hilltoppers basketball team. Vern was an over the road truck driver for over 40 years and didn’t retire until after the age of 70.

He also managed Smith Douglas Fertilizer for many years. Vern was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and rarely missed watching a game (even in his semi). He also enjoyed listening to country music.

A memorial service for Vern will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut with a luncheon to follow. Memorials may be made in Vern’s memory to Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut.

Cremation rites have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
