Susan attended St. Patrick Elementary through 5th grade and continued to Carroll Catholic School, where she graduated in 1964. She then attended Lincoln Community High School in Lincoln, IL where she was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1967, graduated 1968. She moved to Carbondale to attend SIU and met her beloved husband TJ.

Susan had a passion for working with children and was a teacher’s aide at Chester East Lincoln School. During those summers, Susan ran a day camp through the United Cerebral Palsy Association. Susan was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. For many years, she was an active member of the Lincoln Elks' Emblem Club and Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus.

Known as “Susie C.”, “QQ”, “Grandma”, “Mimi” and many other affectionate names, Susan was a true socialite with an open door and an open heart. Her home was always warm and welcoming. Food was plentiful, music filled the air, and laughter was never far behind. Widely regarded as an exceptional hostess, she was often the life of the party, never missing a detail and always giving generously of herself. Not to mention, one of the last to call it a night.

Susan and TJ always set a great example of true friendship, partnership and care for others. Her family will forever cherish the many special memories they created together, especially her grandchildren’s fond recollections of family vacations to Hilton Head Island and Englewood Beach.

Later in life, Susan found great happiness with her fiancé, Terry Brown, he survives. Together they enjoyed traveling, making fine dining a shared passion, and spending their winters snow birding in Florida.

Above all else, Susan loved her family unconditionally. She was an especially devoted grandmother who made every effort to never miss a milestone and to always capture the moment with a photograph-ensuring memories that would last a lifetime.
