Obituary
Betty Reiners Schmidt
of Lincoln passed away on Thursday, December 25,
2025, at St. Clara’s Senior and Rehab Care.
Betty was born August 3, 1933, in rural New Holland,
the daughter of Reiner I. and Jennie (Ruben)
Reiners. She was a graduate of Lincoln Community
High School with the class of 1951. She married
Ralph H. Schmidt on March 3, 1972, and they resided
on a farm west of Lincoln. He preceded her in death
on December 1, 2014.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her
brother, Harold E. Reiners of Lincoln;
sister-in-law, Helen Maaks; and a nephew, Stephen
Reiners of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. Betty is
survived by three stepchildren, Robert (Marcia)
Schmidt of Coto de Caze, CA, Roger Schmidt and
Carolyn Schenk, both of St. Louis, MO; two
step-grandchildren, Stephanie Cochard of Freemont,
CA, and Marc Schmidt of Los Angeles, CA. Also
surviving are nieces and nephews, Carol Mason and
Barbara Patterson of Lake Ozark, MO; David Reiners
of Arlington Heights, IL, Darla Stanfield, Donita
Biggs, Derald Maaks, and Deanna Jacobs, all of
Lincoln.
Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of
Lincoln, where she was a member of the LWML Ladies
Aide Society and the Lutheran Laymen’s League. She
was employed by Lincoln Courier and then was a
founding co-owner of the Lincoln Shopper. She had a
passion for counted cross-stitching, gifting many
families and friends with her beautiful work. |

Her last employment
was as a part-time secretary for Thrivent Financial
Associate Linda Aper. Betty volunteered and served
on the board of the Lincoln.Logan Food Pantry and
was a former member of the Zonta Club of Lincoln.
Betty was an inspiration of faith, and she will be
greatly missed by all of those whose lives she
touched.
Funeral Services for Betty will be held at 11:00 am
on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church
in Lincoln, IL. Visitation will take place two hours
prior, from 9:00 - 11:00 am, also at the church.
Burial will follow the services at New Union
Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorial donations may be made
in Betty’s name to Zion Lutheran Church and School
or Lincoln Logan Food Pantry.
