Obituary
It is with great
sadness that the Mesner family says goodbye to their
husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend,
Stephan Alan Mesner, 71 of Lincoln, Illinois. He
passed away at St. Clara’s Rehab and Senior Care on
December 27, 2025.
Steve was born in
Chicago, Illinois on April 19, 1954 to Anthony
Rudolph and Shirley June (Hall) Mesner. He married
Debra (Weber) Rutherford on November 19, 1982 in
Bloomington, Illinois, she survives.
Steve is also survived by his four children,
Nicholas (Kate) Rutherford, of Lincoln, Rory Mesner
of Marble, Colorado, Michael (Tara) Mesner of
Lincoln and Katie Mesner, also of Lincoln. Steve had
seven grandchildren including Colton Mesner, Andrew
and Kylie Rutherford, Kahmari and Kazlyn Mesner and
Garrett and Leighton Mesner.
His sister, Cynthia Skirtich and sister-in-law,
Sandy (Weber) Bumpus and brother-in-law, Stephen
(Patty) Weber survive him along with many nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Scott, his
mother and father, Anthony Rudolph and Shirley
(Hall) Mesner and two brothers, John and Lawrence
Mesner. One brother-in-law, Gary Skirtich and one
sister-in-law, Jeanetta Mesner.
Steve graduated from Oak Park/River Forest High
School before moving to ElPaso, Illinois. He worked
at Shell Chemical, then G. E. before meeting his
wife and moving to Lincoln to work at Turris Coal
Company. At the age of 45 Steve changed jobs and
finished his working career at “the Bottle Factory“,
St. Gobain Glass.
He was a good provider. He was a good man. A loving
husband, father and grandfather. A good friend.
Every year we loaded up the kids for a vacation to
such places as Niagara Falls, Myrtle Beach or just
Lake Michigan, until one by one they started their
own lives and stopped going. Then he and Debbie took
time together and took their own trips. They were
all very special times. |

Steve was an avid Green Bay
Packer fan. He loved to Golf, shoot pool and eat. Always
wondering what his next meal would be, even in his last days
at St. Clara’s.
Steve chose to be cremated and be sprinkled in his old
haunts in Chicago.
The family will have a Celebration of Steve’s life at a
future date.
Our thanks to all of you that helped to give Steve a happy
and fulfilled life. |
