Logan County Department of Public Health encourages adults to check MMR
vaccination status
[October 02, 2026]
The Logan County Department of Public Health (LCDPH) is
encouraging adults to check their vaccination records to make sure they
are protected against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), particularly as
measles activity continues in Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recently reported 23
confirmed measles cases so far in Illinois in 2026. While the overall
risk to Illinois residents remains low, vaccination continues to be the
best way to prevent measles and limit the spread of the disease.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), most
adults should have at least one documented dose of MMR vaccine or other
evidence of immunity.
Certain adults are recommended to have two doses, including healthcare
personnel, students at post-high-school educational institutions,
international travelers, close contacts of people who are immuno-compromised,
and individuals in groups identified as being at an increased risk
during a measles outbreak.

Adults who have already received two documented doses of MMR vaccine
generally do not need another dose simply because they are adults.
However, individuals who receivedonly one documented dose, have no
documentation of vaccination or immunity, or fall into a higher-risk
group may need an additional dose.
LCDPH has MMR vaccine available for adults. Individuals are encouraged
to check with their insurance provider regarding vaccine coverage. For
those, ages 19 and up whose insurance does not cover the MMR vaccine,
the cost is $23.75 per dose.

The Logan County Department of Public Health's immunization clinic
is open Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
If you are unsure whether you need an MMR vaccine, LCDPH staff can
help you determine what is recommended based on your vaccination
history and individual circumstances.
If you are unable to locate your vaccination
records, do not assume you are unprotected. A healthcare provider or
public health professional can help determine whether vaccination or
additional testing is appropriate.
The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella. Two
appropriately spaced doses provide strong protection against
measles.
LCDPH encourages adults to review their vaccination history and take
steps to stay up to date on recommended vaccines.
For more information about MMR vaccination or to discuss your
vaccination history, contact the Logan County Department of Public
Health at 217-735-2317.
