Substance Use Prevention Coalition meets to discuss community and school
prevention education

The Substance Use Prevention Coalition met for its September meeting to
discuss current and upcoming educational opportunities and initiatives.
The mission of the SUPC is to promote awareness of substance use
disorder, prevent youth substance use, and improve access to resources.
Tall Cop, who provides targeted community substance use education, has
been booked for a community presentation at LCHS on July 30, 2027. The
Logan County Department of Public Health has provided the down payment
to secure the date. Plans are to apply for approved continuing education
credit for nurses, social workers, first responders, teachers, coaches,
etc. Registration will be required.
Walk for Recovery is Thursday, September 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Scully
Park in Lincoln.
SUPC members plan to bring a Hidden in Plain Sight trailer to the Logan
County track meet in Lincoln on April 28. This trailer trains parents
about places that kids and teens may hide substances.
Prevention education curriculum is being presented at six schools this
semester including Havana, Lincoln Junior High School, and Illini
Central. Hartsburg-Emden has been supplied with prevention curriculum
and Mt. Pulaski is reviewing the curriculum. Communication campaigns
beginning with banners and posters for schools are being distributed.
The alcohol campaign has added marijuana to its educational materials.
Logan County results of the Illinois Youth Survey are available in
September.

The Logan County Department of Public Health has a new vendor of
naloxone through the state of Illinois. West Lincoln-Broadwell and
Chester East now have naloxone in every classroom. Plans are to add
boxes for free community access in the smaller communities of Logan
and Mason counties.
The Logan County Department of Public Health has a free expired drug
drop-off location. Every Tuesday night this fall the health
department will be open until 6:30 p.m. with drive-through vaccines.
They have also scheduled flu shot clinics at community locations,
libraries, and schools. The health department will also schedule
home flu shots for anyone who is homebound.
The Community Health Survey goes live this fall.
Angel Tree registration is open.
The next SUPC meeting will be at Lincoln Memorial Hospital and via
Zoom on October 8 from 9 to 10 a.m. The next LMH Community Health
Collaborative meeting will be at the Logan County Department of
Public Health on December 3 from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
