The National Ag Statistics Office has released the preliminary
county crop yields for the 2024 growing season. There was a
significant time delay as this report was slated to be dropped,
but has now been reinstated. The State average corn yield was
217 bushels per acre. The 2023 average for the State was 206
bushels per acre. Logan County had an average yield of 234.5
bushels per acre, which compared to the 2023 yield of 211.1.
Top yielding counties for 2024 were Sangamon at 248.2 bushels
per acre, McLean with 246.7, Macon 243.8, Menard 241.7, and
Piatt with 241.1 bushels per acre. The top producing county in
bushels was McLean County with 76,231,000. Logan County produced
40,569,000 bushels from 173,000 acres harvested. The high year
for Logan County was 2018 with 236.2.
The State average soybean yield was 64 bushels per acre. The
2023 State average was 63.0. Logan County had a 2024 average of
74.0, which establishes a new high average yield.
The top producing soybean counties were Macon with 77.8, Piatt
at 77.6, Sangamon 77.3, Tazewell at 74.9, and Woodford having
74.4 bushels per acre. The top producing county was once again
McLean County with 22,634,000 bushels.
