Obituary

Anne M. Struebing, 79, of New Holland, passed away peacefully at her home on July 13, 2026. She shared 55 years of marriage with her husband, Jim Struebing of New Holland. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, friendship, and service to their community.

Family was at the center of Anne's life. She was the proud mother of Meredith (Michael) Toler; Bethany (Nicholas) Nielsen; Lindsay (Trevor) Cox; and her son, Ryan Struebing, who passed away in 2002. Anne was also the grandmother of Nicholas and Alex Toler; Archer, Adeline, Anders, and Alise Nielsen; and Madeline and Ryan Cox. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments and the unique individuals each became.

Anne's family also includes her sister Patricia (John) Dyreson; mother-in-law Mildred Struebing; brother-in-law Gary Struebing; sisters-in-law Janis Struebing, Jean Dowell, and Barbara Struebing; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Ryan, parents Clarence and Dorothy Strycharske, sister Agatha Wood, brother-in-law Jim Wood, and father-in-law Robert Struebing.

Anne was born in Wausau, Wisconsin, graduated from Antigo High School and earned a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. She began her career as an elementary school teacher, where she met Jim, who was teaching in the same school district. After their marriage, they lived in Elgin, Illinois, then made their home in New Holland, where they raised their four children. Anne later worked as a teacher's aide in the Illini Central School District in Mason City and then at First National Bank in New Holland until her retirement.

Anne had a remarkable gift for friendship and formed lasting connections. Whether through family, work, church, volunteering, travel, or everyday activities, she made people feel comfortable and connected. She enjoyed traveling the world and creating treasured memories along the way. She also made frequent trips to visit her children and grandchildren, celebrating milestones large and small. Her kindness, curiosity, generosity, and genuine interest in others enriched the lives of all who knew her.

A Memorial Mass for Anne will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 10:00 am. Visitation will take place the evening prior, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, IL. Burial will follow the service at Richmond Grove Cemetery in New Holland. Family and friends are invited to join the family for lunch at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland immediately following the services.

Memorials may be made to the Holy Family Food Pantry or the EIU Foundation – Ryan Struebing Scholarship.
