The community of Lincoln came
together on Friday, October 2nd to hold its annual homecoming
parade. The parade, which honors the homecoming royalty at Lincoln
Community High School (LCHS) and the football team’s game that
evening, also hosts many other sports teams, political candidates,
and local businesses. The parade this year was no exception.
The parade lined up down Wyatt Street from the high school. It then
proceeded down to Kickapoo Street, taking a right and heading past
Scully Park and to the Courthouse Square. It then went around the
Courthouse Square on Broadway Street and McLean Street before ending
on the other side of Scully Park.
Quite a few vehicles and floats
took part in the parade this year. ReNew Consignment and Thrift had
a couple of golf carts, as did United Community Bank (UCB). The UCB
gold cart had a large inflatable eagle on top that drew the eye.
A couple of past graduating classes
from the high school also marched. These included the classes of ‘86
and ‘71. Several current classes made floats as well to represent
their grade.
Quite a few sports teams from
various schools made an appearance. The LCHS football team made
their appearance on top of a fire truck, of course. West Lincoln
Broadwell’s basketball team was present, and Carroll Catholic’s
cheer team brought high energy. These were just a few of the many
sports teams that were there. Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal Leslie
Bischoff came through on the back of a convertible.

Kids ran to get candy as it was
thrown, with adults helping little ones grab candy. There were
some kids who were kind, giving some of the candy they had
gotten to the littlest ones present. There was a common
comradery between everyone, kids and adults.
As the final police car came by,
driven by Officer Lasanska of the Lincoln Police Department,
everyone began to disperse. There were smiles on faces and happy
kids with bags full of candy.
