On Friday, September 19th, the
annual Lincoln Homecoming parade was held. The weather earlier that
morning was rainy, but while the clouds remained for the rest of the
day, the rain stayed gone. The clouds also provided some relief from
the sun.
The parade started at 2:00 p.m., with hundreds of people lined up on
the sides of the streets of the parade route. The route started on
Wyatt Avenue. It then went right on Kickapoo and all the way to the
Courthouse Square. Once the route got to Broadway Street, it turned
right again, and then another right onto the next street, S. McLean
Street. The route then finished at Scully Park.

There were many schools, teams, and
floats in the parade. Lincoln Junior High School was present. Both
the cheerleading and poms teams participated. Between the two was
the Lincoln Music Collective, directed and organized by Band
Director Johnathan Popper.

Heartland Community College was
also present, with Hunter Hawk leading the pack. Chester East
Lincoln, Zion Lutheran, and Carroll Catholic schools were there,
throwing candy out to the kids who were eagerly awaiting.
A couple of political campaigns were represented, with many people
wearing shirts to support Josh Pharis running for Logan County
Sheriff. Kevin Knauer was also present, running to retain his
position as District 3 representative on the Logan County Board.

Several local Lincoln businesses
could be seen, including Lincoln Daily News. Central Roofing had a
truck with their business logo prominently displayed on it while
United Community Bank put together a large tree for their float.

There were also many high school
teams. This included the cross country team and the football team.
Members of the Lincoln Community High School Class of 1970 were
there, and the LCHS marching band played their music. The LCHS class
of 2027 also had a stand-out float, mimicking a Monopoly game board,
but calling it ‘Raileropoly.’

The Logan County Fair Royalty was
there, with the Junior Miss and Little Miss waving at the crowd.
Grand Marshal Gayle Rademaker could also be seen doing the same.
As the parade came to an end, the crowds began to disperse. If you
were unable to attend the parade, or if you would just like to look
through photos of the parade, go to Lincoln Daily News’s
website for
slideshows of all the photos taken.
