During this year’s Balloons Over 66
Weekend, the Lincoln Park District was excited to host its very
first Kids’ Fun Runs, sponsored by Lincoln Memorial Hospital. More
than 60 children, ages 1 through 9, laced up their sneakers and took
to the Lincoln Community High School track to run their marked
distances, cheered on by proud families.
It was a heartwarming sight as each
young runner crossed the finish line with a big smile of
accomplishment. At the end of the race, participants received a
medal, a snack, and a chance to capture the moment with a photo at
the fun backdrop featuring the “I Did It!” sign. Before and after
their races, kids also enjoyed dancing to upbeat music and playing
with hula hoops and soccer balls in the infield.

“Adding the kids’
races has been something I’ve wanted to do for several years
now,” said Jennifer Prather, race organizer for the Lincoln Park
District. “I am so thankful to Lincoln Memorial Hospital, not
only for sponsoring the event but also for volunteering on race
morning to help everything run so smoothly.”
The new event was a hit with families,
giving children the chance to be part of the running excitement
during Balloons Over 66. With such positive feedback, organizers are
hopeful this will become a tradition for years to come.
