During the Abraham Lincoln National
Railsplitter Festival, the Railsplitter Antique Auto Club hosted a
car show and cruise-in on Saturday afternoon. While the railsplitter
competitions were hot behind Postville Courthouse and the vendor
show at the VFW was going strong, car lovers brought out their
collections to display for the community to enjoy. Approximately 30
vehicles were exhibited throughout the park. The cars ranged from
early Ford models to more recent Chevrolets. One of the largest
vehicles on display was the Pleasure Way Ram 3500 RV with a carpeted
interior and large lounge in the back. There were also Camaros and
Mustangs on display.
Lincoln resident Mark Anderson was
there with his 1970 GMC C10 half-ton truck with a 383 stroker. He
purchased the truck in Pasadena, Texas, in 1981 and drove it for
about 15 years before he decided to begin restoring it. Anderson
tore the vehicle down and got a new cab and new bed. The only work
he outsourced was the beautiful paint job. The vehicle was painted
in a deep navy blue.
Another eye-catcher belonged to car
enthusiast and collector, Rick Hanna of Emden, IL. Hanna was there
displaying a 1938 Chevy Business Coupe that he has owned for 34
years. The car is painted in a pastel blue-green. He says he found
it in a field outside of Atlanta, IL, with a “for sale” sign on it
along with a 1977 El Camino.

Hanna traced the vehicles'
history and found they came from Oklahoma. He works on his
vehicles himself and explained that he and his parents have
collected many cars over the years. As of now, he has 12 cars in
his collection, including a maroon Packard hearse. Hanna also
shared that he has been to many classic car rallies throughout
the United States
Next to Hanna’s beauty was another
beautiful truck. It was a red 1956 Chevy 3100 with a 327 Chevy motor
in crimson red. Jeff Sherwood of Hartsburg, IL, has worked on the
truck, repairing it for his wife Connie, as it was previously owned
by her father, Jon Wibben. Jeff, a talented mechanic, also has a
1969 Chevelle and a 1983 GMC Caballero in his collection.
Throughout the afternoon, car owners welcomed the chance to pop the
hood and discuss their treasured vehicles with other automotive
enthusiasts while classic rock music played. The event was co-hosted
by Route 66 Garage, located just down the street, and they also
hosted Boomer’s BBQ food truck.
