Lincoln Village Healthcare Center
kicked off Balloons Over 66 weekend with their annual free community
event featuring delicious food, live entertainment, and family
activities on Thursday evening, August 27. Cooler temperatures than
previous years made for a pleasant evening to enjoy an outdoor meal,
music, and games.

Many community members as well as
Lincoln Village residents enjoyed the complementary meal of barbeque
pork sandwiches, cole slaw, potato salad, and generous servings of
fruit, including cantaloupe, grapes, and watermelon, along with
lemonade or iced tea. The food was served efficiently by staff
overseen by dietary manager Joanie Martin from a front window of the
facility, so there was very little wait to pick up the meal. “We
continue the tradition [of the kick-off event],” commented staff
member Kelsey O’Donoghue. “We have had a good turn-out for it.”
A guitarist provided entertainment with covers of classic songs
while diners ate at tables and chairs set up under canopies near the
edge of the parking lot. Additional tables were set up not far from
the dining area to host a facepainting station for anyone who wanted
a bit of bedazzling and a station for anyone who wanted to take home
a little swag. Choice of freebies included frisbees, bubbles, foam
balls, drink koozies, notepads, pill boxes, ice scrapers, and
paperboard fans to beat the heat. Another table had an assortment of
balloons, trinkets, stickers, and bracelets for kids to pick out.
Nearby, staff were spinning fresh cotton candy, popping popcorn, and
concocting made-to-order sno cones from a choice of six flavors of
syrup.

On the other side of the parking
lot, kids cooled off playing on a bounce house waterslide. Near the
entrance to the facility an enormous, inflatable dart board with a
Velcro soccer ball was ready for any attempts to kick a bullseye.
More games were set up near the dining canopies including a giant
Connect Four, a giant game of Sorry!, and a plastic bowling ball and
pins.
Food, fun, music, and games at Lincoln Village continue to be a
great way to kick-off a weekend full of festivities in Lincoln.
